![]() ![]() ![]() The difference lies in clock speeds: Instead of running at 175MHz, the core runs at a default speed of 200MHz. The GeForce 2 MX400 is the same architecturally as the original MX. The differences were very plain: the MX card was equipped with 32 megs of SDR memory instead of DDR memory, the core ran a lower clock speed, and instead of having four pixel pipelines, the MX has two. The GeForce 2 MX, when it was released, was essentially the same thing as a GeForce 2 GTS. ![]() You can see information on the chip in this look from last June. It's hard to believe that the GeForce 2 GTS was introduced more than a year ago. So they did what any self-respecting hardware company would do when faced with competition: increase the clock speed. Of course, now there is a lot more competition ¿ the Kyro 2 chipset is a solid performer on current software, ATi's Radeon is selling for lower prices and offering great performance and image quality, and Nvidia needed to do something to compete with these newer chips, something to bridge the gap between the GeForce 2 MX and (hopefully) an eventual budget version of the GeForce 3.
